What Is Flock? What Does Flocked Fabric Mean?

Flock refers to short fibers that are cut or shredded and applied by an adhesive method onto surfaces such as yarn, fabric, paper, wood, metal, or walls. These fibers range from 0.3 mm to 6 mm in length and come in various diameters and colors. They are made from materials such as cotton, rayon, nylon, and polyester.

Flock fabric, which we frequently encounter in textiles, is also known as artificial velvet because it resembles and gives the feel of velvet.

What Are the Characteristics of Flock Fabric?

Flock upholstery fabrics have been fundamental textile products used in outerwear and home textiles since the 1960s. The flock fiber material typically used as the flock layer in outerwear and home textile flock fabrics is polyamide or viscose, with fiber lengths ranging between 0.5–2.0 mm. Due to the moisture resistance of the base fabric, it mostly consists of polyester/cotton blend fibers.

Flock fabrics are characterized by their vibrant, warm appearance and soft texture. Patterned flock fabrics can also be produced through special effect applications.
